Real Madrid are eyeing a raid on Tottenham.

Real Madrid are planning to sign Christian Eriksen on a pre-contract agreement in January, The Mirror report.

And they hope this will be the first step in persuading manager Mauricio Pochettino to quit the club and join the Spanish giants.

Real are currently struggling by their own high standards, with Zinedine Zidane’s return proving a massive flop so far.

Spurs boss Pochettino previously managed in La Liga with Espanyol, which led to him publicly ruling out a move to Barcelona.

Pochettino has been on Real’s wishlist for years, but everything at Tottenham has always been so rosy that there seemed to be no reason he would want to leave for a club which does not promise the same stability.

Yet Spurs’ poor league form in 2019 has led to some debate over whether Pochettino has led the club as far as he can.

Questions over the futures of key players are a part of this, with Eriksen’s expiring contract one of them.

Tottenham could try to sell him in January in order to prevent him joining Real and affecting Pochettino’s future, but the Dane is free to negotiate and sign.

Perhaps the backlash from Tottenham supporters, and his need to see out the season, might put him off.

If Spurs ended up losing Pochettino, a radical rethink would be required from chairman Daniel Levy over the future of the club and his replacement.
