According to AS, Real Madrid plan to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle if Manchester United land Casemiro.

What’s the story?

Well, Manchester United seem to have given up on Frenkie de Jong, and are now pursuing the Brazil international, who has become one of the best on the planet at the Santiago Bernabeu.

AS believe Casemiro is tempted to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, and Manchester United hope to have found an agreement by Saturday.

As a result, Real Madrid have identified a few potential replacements, with Bruno Guimaraes at the top of their list.

However, the European champions will have to part with a significant sum if they are to sign the South America.

AS add that Newcastle will demand in excess of double the £40m they spent on the 24-year-old when signing him from Lyon in January.

Casemiro is being offered a five-year contract by Manchester United, which is said to be worth double his current £184,000-a-week salary.

Newcastle must hope Manchester United & Real Madrid talks collapse

In our view, Eddie Howe will be sweating nervously if this news if true.

Of course, Bruno Guimaraes has only just arrived on Tyneside, and is already a firm fan favourite amongst the Toon Army – the Brazil international also seems to be enjoying himself at St James’ Park.

In 19 appearances for the Magpies, their No.39 has scored five goals, while also providing one assist.

However, Real Madrid represent the summit of world football, and if they target a player, they pretty much always get their man.

Especially for South American players, a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid is a dream, so it is very possible that Bruno Guimaraes asks to leave Newcastle in favour of being the heir to Casemiro’s throne.

Only time will tell what happens, but the last thing Newcastle need is for Real Madrid to be sniffing around.
