Celta Vigo striker Gomez is in sensational form and drumming up a lot of interest as a result, including Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly trying to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez after his explosive start to the 2018-19 La Liga campaign – but now face enormous competition from one of Spain’s finest, Real Madrid.

Gomez, 22, has scores six goals in 10 La Liga appearances this season, including one against Atletico Madrid in a 2-0 win and a brace against Real Betis earlier this month.

He has also laid on four assists with interested sides noticing that it is not just his goalscoring touch that is impressive, but also his tenacity, work rate and football intelligence to also be able to create goals – rather than just score himself.

El Pais claimed earlier this month that both Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund were interested in landing nine-time Uruguay international Gomez with the January transfer window fast approaching.

But the Premier League side, and indeed the Bundesliga outfit, will have been shunted down the pecking order as CalcioMercato report that one of the world’s most illustrious clubs have entered the race for Gomez – in Real Madrid.

Real are struggling for form in La Liga this season, though the appointment of Santiago Solari has helped somewhat of late. The loss of Cristiano Ronaldo has hardly been replaced.

It is likely that Real are to enter the January and summer windows in order to re-establish themselves as a dominant force in Europe, and that may see Spurs miss out on the red-hot Gomez.
