Reading were denied the chance to sign Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott on loan, according to The Sun.
It is claimed Scott was hoping to head to the Madejski Stadium late on Thursday, but the Blues did not want sanction his exit until they had Danny Drinkwater signed.

Drinkwater’s move from Leicester – which The Sun reports to be worth £35 million – was then delayed, causing the champions of England to request an extension from the Premier League.
And it would appear that by the time Chelsea eventually confirmed the 27-year-old’s capture, at 1:30am, Reading’s chances of signing Scott – who has twice been named on the Blue’ bench this league campaign – were over.
Reading manager Jaap Stam
The Sun reports that while the United States Under-20 international is ‘expected’ to be part of Antonio Conte’s first team squad, Reading’s failure to land him ‘will put a host of Championship sides on red alert for a possible loan deal in January’.
Jaap Stam’s side lost key midfielder Danny Williams to Huddersfield Town in July, but the subsequent signings of Pelle Clement and Dave Edwards mean they are not short of options in Scott’s position.
