According to The Telegraph, RB Leipzig are keeping close tabs on Liverpool’s Champions League situation with regards to their move for Ibrahima Konate.
Fabrizio Romano claimed on Friday evening that Liverpool were on the verge of signing Konate in a deal worth €35million (£30million).
Now though, it’s stated that his release clause is actually higher than first thought, and the deal may actually cost £40million instead.
That’s a high fee for Liverpool to be paying, and Leipzig seemingly have hope that Liverpool won’t be able to pay up that kind of cash.
The Bundesliga club are watching Liverpool closely, as missing out on the Champions League could really hit their transfer budget this summer.
Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Saturday means that they sit four points adrift of the top four with just five games left to play.

Time is running out for Liverpool to haul themselves back into Champions League contention, and missing out may heavily dent the budget at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
If they don’t have Champions League football, spending £40million on Konate may become exorbitant – and would give Leipzig a glimmer of hope that they can keep the Frenchman after all.
