Everton reportedly rejected RB Leipzig’s first offer for Ademola Lookman, but now have another bid to respond to.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, RB Leipzig have made a fresh bid for Ademola Lookman after seeing their opening offer for the forward rejected by Everton.
The 21-year-old has endured a tricky time since moving to Goodison Park for £11 million in 2017, with the most successful spell since that move coming when he joined the Bundesliga side on loan in 2018.
He started just three times in the Premier League last season, making a further 18 appearances from the bench. But that has not put RB Leipzig off making a big effort to get the former Charlton Athletic youngster back.
The Mail reports that Leipzig had an initial £13 million bid rejected by the Toffees, and they have since returned with a £22.5 million offer, which would involve Marco Silva’s men earning £18 million up front and a further £4.5 million in add-ons.
It is not clear how Everton plan to respond to the latest bid, or what Lookman makes about his future, but the substantial increase from their first offer surely leaves the Toffees with a tough decision to make.
If Lookman can realise his potential at Goodison Park, turning down £22.5 million could look like a masterstroke in years to come. But if he is going to remain on the periphery of the squad, the chance to earn more than twice what they paid initially must be tempting for Everton, especially with the potential move on the table taking him away from the Premier League.
