According to Bild, RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate ‘feels at home’ – but the club fear they’re in a trap.

The Athletic reported late in March that Liverpool were in the process of finalising a deal to bring Konate to Anfield this summer.

A deal of €40million (£35million) was suggested due to a release clause in the defender’s contract, but the deal doesn’t seem to have advanced.

It’s now claimed that Konate is happy with the Bundesliga side, and with two years left on his contract, isn’t exactly pushing for an exit.

However, Leipzig feel stuck; if Konate plays well between now and the end of the season, it’s more likely that his release clause will indeed be activated.

Leipzig are seemingly well aware that Liverpool fancy signing Konate, but they want him to be the replacement for Dayot Upamecano following his move to Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old is a huge talent, and if he can avoid the pesky injuries that have set him back so far, he will likely become even better than Upamecano.

Liverpool may hope to get a deal done – and Leipzig can’t really say no if they activate that release clause – but Konate’s own stance is a factor here, and he seems happy in Saxony.
