According to De Stentor, Liverpool have attempted to sign PEC Zwolle teenager Rav van den Berg – the brother of current Reds talent Sepp.
Liverpool raided Zwolle last summer with a raid for Sepp van den Berg. Jurgen Klopp and co wanted to add a young centre back to mould over the coming years, and Van den Berg was their choice.
The 18-year-old has played in four first-team games this season, all in the cup. He’s had his ups and downs in those games, but Liverpool have cause to be optimistic about his future.
Now, it’s stated that Liverpool tried to repeat the trick and sign another Zwolle defender – Van den Berg’s brother Rav. AC Milan were keen too, whilst Ajax and PSV Eindhoven wanted the youngster.
However, the 15-year-old has snubbed all four. Instead, he has signed a two-year deal with the option of a third with Zwolle, with the aim of becoming a first-teamer like Sepp did.
Zwolle are pleased with this, not just because he will now look to stay and develop, but also because the move will enhance his value on the market.
Had he chosen to leave, Zwolle would have only earned the club minimal compensation. Yet having signed a professional deal, he would now cost much more; Sepp left for €2million (£1.8million).
Rejecting a club like Liverpool is always a bold decision, but the teenager has put his own development first. Maybe a reunion with Sepp can arrive in the future, but for now, Rav wants to settle down with Zwolle.
