Report: Ranieri wants £22m Leicester man; 2019 Wolves signing could also leave

Claudio Ranieri’s Sampdoria are closing in on a deal to sign Adrien Silva from Leicester City, while Meritan Shabani could also be on his way to the Serie A outfit from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to reports in Italy.

It is fair to say Silva’s £22 million move to the King Power Stadium looked doomed from day one.

The Portugal international was forced to wait five months to make his debut in Leicester blue, after his deadline day transfer from Sporting Lisbon missed the transfer cut off by a mere 14 seconds.

Two years on, Silva must be wishing that he had never swapped Lisbon for Leicestershire.

The France-born 31-year-old has only made 14 Premier League appearances for the 2016 champions, falling out of favour under Portugal coach Fernando Santos as a result.

A reunion with Ranieri at Sampdoria, however, could be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Tuttomercatoweb report that a deal is close with the former Foxes boss expected to complete the signing of a man he, back in 2016, described as ‘a great player’.

Silva has just one year left on his contract at Leicester too, and Brendan Rodgers’ side would jump at the chance to cash in before one of the most disappointing signings in their recent history walks away for nothing.

Silva is not the only seldom-seen midfielder on Samp’s radar.

Calciomercato claims that Shabani, the 21-year-old who joined Wolves from Bayern Munich last summer, could also be heading to the Luigi Ferraris.

A cruciate ligament injury restricted Shabani to just 16 minutes of football during his debut season at Molineux.
