Joe Aribo is expected to join Scottish Premiership giants Rangers with Steven Gerrard set to sign one of the biggest young talents in the Football League.

Rangers are set to offer Joe Aribo a £20,000-a-week contract as they look to seal a deal for the coveted Charlton Athletic midfielder, according to the Daily Mail (17 June, page 77).

Aribo has been a gossip column regular in recent weeks with his contract at The Valley set to expire at the end of the month.

A 22-year-old midfielder who scored 10 goals as The Addicks sealed a return to the Championship last month, beating Sunderland in the League One play-off final, Aribo has been linked with a wide range of clubs.

Goal claimed that Southampton, Rennes and Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic were all hoping to snap up the youngster on a free transfer.

But it looks like Rangers are set to tie up a deal by offering Aribo a rather substantial contract worth £20,000-a-week. This will make him one of the highest earners in Steven Gerrard’s squad.

A powerful yet skilful midfielder, comparisons with former Arsenal captain and France legend Patrick Vieira speak volumes about Aribo’s mix of tenacity and technique.

He could form a formidable central midfield partnership with Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack while his impending arrival looks set to seal the fate of forgotten loanee Lassana Coulibaly, who fell out of favour after an excellent start to life at Ibrox.
