A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Rangers are considering targeting Norwich City’s chief scout Joe Savage as they continue to look to fill the director of football role at Ibrox.

The Gers began looking for someone to take on the job back in February in the wake of Mark Warburton’s departure as manager (via BBC Sport), but have so far, had no luck making an appointment.

Their search has seemingly led the Light Blues to take a look at Savage, who plays a crucial role in recruitment at Carrow Road.

The Record reports that Savage – who was brought to Norwich from Hamilton by former Canaries boss Alex Neil – is a name that appeals to the Rangers hierarchy due to his contacts and connections on the continent, with several of Norwich’s foreign acquisitions from recent times coming from his suggestions.

It is perhaps hardly a surprise that Savage is a name that Rangers are considering given his knowledge of continental players.

The Gers have already signed Portugal international Bruno Alves, while they have also had their eye on Vitoria Setubal defender Fabio Cardoso (via Daily Record), so it appears that signing players currently plying their trade in mainland Europe is certainly a strategy that the Gers are targeting.
