Rangers are looking for a director of football – and Southampton’s Ross Wilson is reportedly a target for the Ibrox club.
According to the Daily Mail, Rangers are keen to make Southampton’s Ross Wilson their new director of football following Frank McParland’s exit.
The Gers announced on Friday that manager Mark Warburton had left the club having offered his resignation, with the initial view that he walked before he was pushed after some disappointing recent displays.

The story has been made complicated by Warburton claiming that he didn’t resign, but Rangers are certainly searching for a new manager after Graeme Murty took charge of Sunday’s 2-1 Scottish Cup win over Morton.

Not only is a new manager needed, but Warburton’s trusted sidekicks David Weir and Frank McParland also left the club, meaning Rangers will also look to appoint an assistant manager and recruitment chief.
Rangers chairman Dave King
Now, the Daily Mail report that Rangers are searching for a director of football to take McParland’s place, and Southampton’s Ross Wilson is a top target.
The Scot has been working as Southampton’s Director of Scouting and Recruitment since 2015, meaning he has helped oversee moves for Virgil van Dijk, Cedric Soares, Oriol Romeu, Charlie Austin, Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sofiane Boufal and new goal hero Manolo Gabbiadini.
Now though, the former Falkirk and Watford man is wanted to head up Rangers’ transfer activity, after McParland played a part in signings such as Philippe Senderos, Matt Crooks, Jordan Rossiter and Joe Garner – none of whom have impressed this season.
Whether Wilson would accept a move to Ibrox remains to be seen, given that he told BBC Sport in September 2015 that he snubbed a 2011 move to Celtic in order to try his hand in England with Watford, whilst the Daily Mail reported in October 2016, that the Bhoys were still keen on Wilson.

Having impressed in England, a move back to Scotland would be something of a surprise, but if given major control by chairman Dave King, Rangers could tempt Wilson into a Glasgow move.
