Rangers are keen on Rapid Vienna forward Taxiarchis Fountas, according to Sport24, although it will take an “immoral offer” to convince the Austrian outfit to cash in.
For the second time in the same transfer window, Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow giants are being linked with a man who is turning heads in the home of Mozart.
Dejan Ljubicic will not be bringing his rhythmic midfield stylings to Scotland any time soon, however, taking over the captain’s armband at Rapid Vienna and confirming publicly he won’t be going anywhere before the 5 October deadline (Sky).
The same can’t be said about his red-hot teammate, however.
Greek international Fountas scored 20 goals in 27 games last season and has started 2020/21 in typically lethal fashion, finding the net five times in five matches.
“The fact is he has a contract with us. I assume he will stay (but), should an immoral offer come, you have to negotiate everything,” Rapid coach Dietmar Kuhbauer said earlier this month (Spox).

That contract is due to expire in 2022 and, unless an extension can be agreed, Rangers may be in a position to make the kind of offer Rapid would consider in the “immoral” category.
Sport24 suggests Fountas is valued at £4 million – a fee that would hardly break the bank at Rangers, especially if Alfredo Morelos leaves during the next fortnight.
Fountas, a journeyman forward who arrived in Austria last summer after a spell in Germany, would be the third new striker at Ibrox this summer after Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe.
