Glasgow Rangers are reportedly in pole position as they look to bring Luca Connell to Ibrox this summer.
Rangers have joined the race to sign Luca Connell this summer, with a report from the Daily Mail suggesting that Steven Gerrard’s men are out in front in the battle for the starlet’s signature.
Connell looks set to be on the move this summer, with his contract with cash-strapped Bolton Wanderers expiring imminently. The Daily Mail reports that the Trotters will receive a compensation fee for the 18-year-old, who has made a number of first-team appearances for the Championship side.
The Mail adds that a lengthy queue of admirers is forming, with Rangers alongside Premier League-bound Norwich City in leading the chase, while Southampton and Preston North End are also interested.
Gerrard has taken little time to crack on with his summer purchases. The likes of Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones have signed pre-contract deals with the Gers, while Steven Davis will see his loan move converted into a permanent switch.
If they get him, Connell could prove to be the most exciting addition that Rangers bring in this summer. The holding midfielder – who can also play at left-back – appears to have a frightening amount of potential, and the likes of Gerrard and Gary McAllister may be the perfect coaches to unlock all of that potential in the coming years.
And with Bolton powerless to prevent Connell leaving this summer, this could be a fantastic opportunity for another team to land an incredible bargain. It would be an outstanding statement from Rangers if they could capitalise on their current position in the race and get a deal across the line.
