According to De Telegraaf (TV footage via Voetbal), Rangers still want to sign Joey Veerman, but a big issue that could scupper the deal has been brought to light.

The 22-year-old is said to get extremely homesick, so he may not be keen on a move to Ibrox.

De Telegraaf state that Veerman is never selected for international squads because he very quickly becomes homesick.

The Dutchman prefers to stay at home for personal reasons while the Netherlands national team fly all over Europe.

De Telegraaf add that PSV Eindhoven, Atalanta and Stade Reims want to sign him too.

However, due to Veerman’s homesickness, PSV Eindhoven hold the advantage as they are based in the Netherlands.

It would be a shame if Rangers missed out for this reason, as the SC Heerenveen No.20 seems like a brilliant player.

Veerman has scored nine goals while also recording ten assists this season, which is simply brilliant.

What makes it more impressive, however, is that he usually plays as a defensive midfielder, so he’s not always close to goal.

What type of player is he?

Well, the Daily Record likened him to Barry Ferguson ‘in his pomp’ – they also said he plays like Celtic’s Callum McGregor.

By all accounts, he would be a fantastic signing for Steven Gerrard.

Hopefully, he can be persuaded to take the plunge into Glasgow, despite his homesickness.
