Rangers look set to sign defender Philippe Senderos on a free transfer.

According to the Daily Record, defender Philippe Senderos was undergoing a medical with Rangers on Thursday evening ahead of a permanent switch.
Senderos, 31, is a free agent having left Swiss side Grasshopper Zurich at the end of last season, and has been searching for a new club all summer.

Earlier this month, Senderos joined Rangers on trial in a bid to impress manager Mark Warburton, but when the Gers pursued a deal for Aston Villa’s Joleon Lescott last week, it looked like Senderos would miss out on a permanent Ibrox deal.
However, Lescott’s deal fell through, meaning Warburton has circled back to Senderos – and the Daily Record report that the centre back underwent a medical on Thursday evening in order to finalise his move to Ibrox.

Best known for having played for Arsenal, Senderos has played in three World Cups for Switzerland, and is seen as the man to provide some more experience in the Rangers defence.
Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson had some shaky moments last season, and whilst veteran Clint Hill has been brought in on a free transfer, Senderos adds another experienced option for Warburton.

Formerly of huge clubs like Arsenal, AC Milan, Aston Villa, Everton and Valencia, Senderos won’t be overawed by Ibrox or the huge crowds that Rangers pull in, and that may be a factor in Warburton’s decision to sign the centre back.
With the deal expected to be completed imminently, Senderos will become Rangers’ twelfth signing of the summer, following Matt Gilks, Lee Hodson, David Bates, Clint Hill, Joey Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks, Josh Windass, Niko Kranjcar, Joe Dodoo and Joe Garner in joining the club.
