New Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is seemingly keen to make Walker his latest Ibrox recruit.

Rangers have been told to more than double their opening bid for Hearts winger Jamie Walker, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.

Pedro Caixinha’s side are said to have lodged a verbal offer of £500,000 for Walker, who scored 15 goals and created another seven in all competitions this past campaign.

It is claimed the 23-year-old has told Hearts he will not renew his contract – which expires at the end of next season – and the Edinburgh side are therefore “reluctantly open” to selling him this summer.

Nevertheless, Rangers have seen their opening bid instantly dismissed, with Hearts holding out for a seven-figure sum, according to the Edinburgh Evening Times.

It is, however, said that the Ibrox side are “expected to negotiate further” over the coming weeks.

Rangers have already added five new faces during the summer transfer window, with a pair of wingers, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias, among them.

Nevertheless, it is thought that fellow wide men Michael O’Halloran and Harry Forrester could be moved on by Caixinha, while the future of another, Auchenhowie product Barrie McKay, remains uncertain.
