Rangers were rebuffed in an initial attempt to bring their former midfielder back to Ibrox.

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers will return with an improved offer for Derek McInnes, after Aberdeen turned down an initial approach from Ibrox.
The report claims Rangers are planning a second offer of over £1 million to land the 46-year-old, who is said to have been their number 1 target since Pedro Caixinha’s sacking coming up six weeks ago.
McInnes, who spent five years on Rangers’ books as a player, criticised his old club’s manager search earlier this week. However, the Daily Record reports he is determined to listen to what Rangers have to say ‘even if that results in a messy divorce from Aberdeen’.

And according to both publications, McInnes could be forced to hand in his resignation if Aberdeen continue to block Rangers’ efforts to prise him away.
The Dons agreed a fee in the region of £800,000 with Sunderland ahead of the new season, only for McInnes to turn down a move to the Stadium of Light.
The Paisley-born boss saw his side overtaken by Rangers at the weekend, after back-to-back defeats to the 54-time Scottish champions in the space of a week.
