Rangers aren’t giving up hope of bringing George Edmundson to Ibrox.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are set to match Portsmouth’s bid for Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson – and he wants a move to Ibrox in what could be the Gers’ final move.
Edmundson, 21, impressed for Oldham last season, racking up more than 50 appearances in all competitions whilst emerging as one of League Two’s top young talents.
It’s no great surprise that clubs are now interested in signing the 6ft 3in stopper, and League One side Portsmouth had a bid of £600,000 accepted just days ago.
Rangers have been keen on signing him, with two bids rejected, but they’re not giving up. These new claims suggest that Rangers will match Portsmouth’s bid imminently with their final offer, and it’s believed that he wants a move to Ibrox in order to work with Steven Gerrard.
Rangers obviously need to get a move on, with Portsmouth attempting to seal the deal quickly, but that belief that he wants to play for Gerrard should boost their hopes.
With Joe Worrall gone, Gerrard may well want another young centre back in the mix alongside Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, and Edmundson fits the bill.

He wouldn’t break the bank at £600,000, and whereas Worrall was only on loan, this time Edmundson would be a Rangers player for years to come, giving Gerrard time to develop him.
Of course, Oldham to Rangers is a huge step up, and he’ll need to learn quickly how to deal with the Ibrox crowd. Gerrard must be convinced he has what it takes, and we may see Rangers finally having a bid accepted for the defender if they do match Pompey’s bid.
