Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is facing a race against time to be fit for the Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final in April with the Daily Record reporting that he is set to be out for at least a month due to a hamstring injury.

Halliday has not played for the Gers since the 3-2 victory over St Johnstone and sustained the injury on the training ground last week, the Record reports.

The injury ruled him out of Sunday’s trip to Parkhead, leaving him to look on as Graeme Murty led the Light Blues to a 1-1 draw against the Scottish Premiership leaders in his final game in charge before handing the reins to Pedro Caixinha.

And he may have to watch the next Old Firm clash from the sidelines also, with just six weeks to not only get back to full fitness, but to also prove to the new manager that he deserves a chance to play at Hampden Park.

The news will undoubtedly be a blow to Halliday. The 25-year-old has generally struggled to find his best form in the top flight, and has only really shone on the odd occasion this term.

And given that form, it seems unlikely that Caixinha is going to be willing to throw him in for that clash with Celtic unless he has proved beyond any doubt that he is ready for the contest fitness-wise, and that he can actually make a positive impact on the game.
