As reported exclusively by Manchester Evening News, Rangers target Dion McGhee – who trialled at Tottenham and Newcastle – may have found a new club after his release from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old was let go by the Red Devils over the summer, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that he was of interest to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

McGhee was also handed a trial by Newcastle at the end of October as The Chronicle reported, while Vavel exclusively revealed that the attacking midfielder had an audition at Tottenham midway through August.

Now, however, the ex-Manchester United man has spoken out about his next move to the Manchester Evening News.

McGhee said: ‘There has been a lot of interest abroad, in Spain, Germany and Portugal and I’m really excited to share what’s coming up. It looks like I’m going abroad at the moment and I can’t wait to get cracking.’

It seems as if the Oldham-born man might be waving goodbye to the United Kingdom very soon, which would mean no move to either Rangers, Tottenham or Newcastle materialised.

While it’s a shame that his trials with the two Premier League outfits were seemingly unsuccessful, it’s good to see another young Englishman take the brave step of moving abroad, which not many are keen to do.

Ex-Manchester City prospect Jadon Sancho was one of the first young Englishman to move overseas to Borussia Dortmund, starting a trail for the likes of Ademola Lookman, Reiss Nelson, Jude Bellingham and others to follow suit.

Hopefully, McGhee does well abroad – should the move go through – and it’s not too long until his name is up in lights, just like Sancho’s now is.
