Feyenoord have tried and failed to tie Rangers target Crysencio Summerville down to a new contract after rejecting a seven-figure offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Voetbal International.
If this jet-heeled winger was plying his trade for almost any other club in the Eredivisie, he would be gearing up for a breakthrough season in the starting XI after a series of exhilarating performances on loan at ADO Den Haag.
But with Feyenoord boasting perhaps the finest crop of wide players in Dutch football, Summerville’s future is more uncertain than ever with just three weeks remaining until the new Eredivisie season kicks off.
According to VI, the Rotterdam giants have failed to convince the Dutch youth star to sign a new contract at De Kuip.
His current deal due to expire in 2021 and a summer sale now looks increasingly inevitable.
Veteran head coach Dick Advocaat sees Summerville as Feyenoord’s sixth choice winger, behind the likes of 2019 Golden Boot winner Steven Berghuis and new signing Bryan Linssen.
As a result, there is a very real chance that Summerville is facing up to the prospect of a year of U21 football. After shining on the senior stage at ADO Den Haag, this understandably feels like a step in the wrong direction.
VI adds that Rangers are interested while Wolves, who snapped up Nigel Lonwijk and Justin Hubner from PSV and Den Bosch earlier this year, have had a £1 million-plus bid rejected.
If Nuno’s side coming calling again, however, Feyenoord might have no choice but to cash in before October’s transfer deadline.
“They are great clubs,” Summerville told Voetbal Primeur recently when asked about a potential move to Ibrox or Molineux.
