Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly hoping to bring Nikola Katic to Ibrox this summer.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Rangers will have to pay £2 million if they hope to sign Nikola Katic, the Slovan Belupo defender that Steven Gerrard reportedly has his eye on this summer.

The Mail reports that the Gers are closing in on a £3 million deal to sign Connor Goldson from Brighton, but unsurprisingly, Gerrard is reportedly looking for further defensive reinforcement with the Mail reporting that Katic is also on his radar.

Katic is a one-time Croatia international who made 34 starts for his current side this past season. The Mail adds that Spartak Moscow are also interested in signing the centre-back but a spokesman for his agent has confirmed that there have been no concrete offers for the 21-year-old.

Katic appears to be an extremely bright prospect who would certainly improve the Light Blues’ defensive options if the Scottish Premiership side were the ones who managed to agree a deal with him during the coming months.

Gerrard is currently lacking options at the heart of the defence, and even if Goldson joins as he is expected to, going into the campaign without greater depth in that area of the squad would probably be a massive mistake.

Katic is a somewhat unproven prospect, but he is a youngster that has already represented Croatia at senior level and is getting regular first-team football under his belt so he appears to have the kind of attributes that Gerrard can certainly build upon if he did join Rangers this summer.
