Rangers were linked with bringing Martin Skrtel to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers signing Martin Skrtel always looked a little unlikely, but there may suddenly be another unexpected chance to land him.
Skrtel, 34, left Fenerbahce at the end of last season when his contract expired, meaning he was on the lookout for a new club.
The Daily Record claimed that Rangers had launched a new move for Skrtel after two failed attempts, seemingly hoping that Steven Gerrard’s relationship with him would pay off.
Gerrard played with Skrtel at Liverpool, and has seemingly been keen on bringing the Slovakian international to Ibrox in a bold reunion.
Skrtel himself even confirmed interest from Rangers, as quoted by the Daily Record, before eventually joining Serie A side Atalanta instead.
That appeared to be a smart move, with Atalanta in the group stages of this season’s Champions League, but it seems to have gone sour for Skrtel already.

Tuttomercatoweb report that Skrtel is terminating his contract with Atalanta after just three weeks with the club, claiming that official confirmation of his shock exit is expected imminently after an alleged row with boss Gian Piero Gasperini.
That makes Skrtel available once again, and some may wonder whether Rangers will finally be able to bring him to Ibrox.
Yet having signed Filip Helander and George Edmundson already this summer, adding them to Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, a move for Skrtel doesn’t really make sense anymore – unless Gerrard really feels his defence lacks Skrtel’s experience.
