Rangers are reportedly keen to bring Leonel Di Placido to Ibrox.
According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers want Lanus defender Leonel Di Placido – and he’s keen on a move to Europe to further his international career.
The Gers have seen James Tavernier make a strong start to the season, and whilst he won’t be heading to England now their transfer window is over, he is bound to attract more interest next summer or even in January.
Rangers do have Matt Polster and Jon Flanagan in the ranks, but Steven Gerrard may be keen on another attack-minded right back, just as a potential successor should Tavernier go.
It’s believed that Rangers want to land Di Placido, and the 25-year-old may be keen himself, as he’s allegedly interested in a move to Europe to further his international career.
Di Placido was called up to the Argentina squad in September 2018 after the World Cup, but is still waiting for his first cap, and seemingly thinks moving to Europe will allow him to take that next step.
Argentina do have a number of right backs coming through, with Fabricio Bustos, Gonzalo Montiel, and Renzo Saravia highly rated, but Rangers could benefit from Di Placido’s aspirations.
He’s quick and skillful, but with just seven assists in his entire career, some would wonder whether he’s really equipped to replace Tavernier’s attacking prowess, given that he hit 17 goals and 20 assists last season alone.
Rangers have limited history with Argentines, as only Claudio Caniggia, Gabriel Amato and Federico Nieto have played for the club, but Di Placido may well join those ranks, with Rangers keen on a loan deal for the £1million-rated right back.
