Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena could be set for an early exit from Ibrox.

According to ESPN Mexico, Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena is set to leave the club in order to head back to Mexico and reunite with Pedro Caixinha at Cruz Azul.
Pena, 27, was one of Caixinha’s key summer signings, as the Portuguese boss paid over £2million (The Scottish Sun) to lure him from Chivas Guadalajara.

The midfielder had earned a reputation as being a goalscoring midfielder in Mexico, and with 19 caps for Mexico, Rangers fans were excited about his arrival.
However, Pena has barely looked fit enough to play regularly, and whilst he has chipped in with five goals this season, he has been in and out of the side since Caixinha’s sacking in October.
Now, ESPN Mexico report that Pena is already close to leaving Rangers, as Cruz Azul in his native Mexico – now managed by Caixinha – have opened talks over a deal.

It’s claimed that Caixinha has specifically asked for Pena as a key signing in his new job, and the player himself is prepared to make the return to Mexico to reunite with his former Rangers boss.
Rangers are unlikely to put up too much of a fight to keep Pena at Ibrox, but they will be looking to recoup much of the fee they paid just a matter of months ago.
