Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is seemingly adamant that he isn’t leaving Ibrox.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard arrives ahead of the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Hibernian and Rangers at Easter Road on March 08, 2019 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

According to The Mirror, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be staying at Ibrox after rejecting Mike Ashley’s approach to become Newcastle United manager.

Gerrard only became Rangers manager last summer despite limited coaching experience, and enjoyed a decent first season in charge at Ibrox, with plenty to be encouraged about.

The 39-year-old is gearing up for a second campaign, but after he shot down links to Derby County earlier this summer, he’s now being linked with Newcastle United.

It’s believed that Magpies owner Ashley has approached Gerrard and his representatives with the offer to leave Rangers for Newcastle – but that move has been snubbed.

A move to Tyneside would have been somewhat strange for Gerrard, given that he’d have been replacing Rafael Benitez in the Newcastle dugout – the man who managed him at Liverpool.

Whilst Gerrard showed promise in his first season at Rangers, a move to the Premier League may be a little too early right now, and honing his craft at Ibrox for a couple more years should be the immediate plan for the Englishman.

As for the offer to join Newcastle, Gerrard probably made the right decision. The Magpies are in chaos right now, with season ticket holders snubbing Ashley and co after losing both Benitez and Ayoze Perez.

Rangers can offer huge crowds just like Newcastle, as well as a title challenge, European football, and one of the biggest derbies in world football – so if Gerrard is to head back to England, it should – and it’s sad to say this – be a better proposition than this current Newcastle one.
