Glasgow Rangers had hoped to keep Billy Gilmour at Ibrox, but it appears that he is on his way out.

A report from Goal has suggested that Rangers are to lose starlet Billy Gilmour this summer after the 15-year-old agreed a deal to join Premier League giants Chelsea at the end of the season.

According to Goal, the highly-rated youngster was attracting attention from the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal as he moved through the ranks at Murray Park.

His progression almost culminated in his first-team debut as former interim boss Graeme Murty told the club’s official website that Gilmour was desperately close to being included in the squad that dispatched Hamilton 6-0 in the Scottish Cup quarter-final earlier this month.

Unfortunately for Gers fans however, it now seems unlikely that he will get the chance to shine in front of the Ibrox faithful as Goal suggests that a £500,000 move to Stamford Bridge has been agreed ahead of the summer.

Goal adds that Gilmour was impressed following a trip to the Blues’ Cobham training ground, persuading him to reject the interest from the other European heavyweights chasing his signature.

The news will undoubtedly be a blow to Light Blues boss Pedro Caixinha, who may well have earmarked the youngster as someone who could be a very special player in the future, and seemingly had the potential to perhaps become a talisman for the side for years to come.
