Rangers have allowed Daniel Candeias to leave Ibrox.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers received just £250,000 from Genclerbirligi for winger Daniel Candeias, with the Ibrox side making a considerable loss.

Candeias, 31, was always going to be under threat after Rangers signed right wingers Sheyi Ojo and Jake Hastie this summer, but few could have expected him to move on so quickly.

The Portuguese winger was left out of the Europa League squad to face St Joseph’s, but then starred in the pre-season friendly win over Marseille, seemingly putting himself back on track under Steven Gerrard.

Now though, Candeias has gone, joining Genclerbirligi, just over two years since he last played in Turkey with Alanyaspor.

Rangers announced the fee as being ‘undisclosed’, as most clubs do, but it’s now claimed that the deal was worth just £250,000 in a move which seems absolutely baffling.

Yes, Candeias is in his 30’s now, so Rangers were never going to receive huge money. However, after hitting 14 goals and 25 assists in his two seasons at Ibrox, £250,000 almost seems insulting.

Rangers paid £700,000 to sign Candeias from Benfica two years ago (BBC), and many will have been expecting that the Gers at least broke even after seeing him impress in Glasgow.

Instead, the Gers have made a surprise loss on the deal, and an experienced head has now left Ibrox for a bargain price, leaving Gerrard to put his faith in youngsters Hastie and Ojo instead.
