Glasgow Rangers could bring Jason Cummings to Ibrox on a permanent basis for a seven-figure fee.

When the dust settled on the January transfer window, Cummings’ arrival on loan appeared to be the most inspired piece of business that Rangers did during the month after his stunning spell with Hibernian before his switch to the City Ground.

And while the 22-year-old’s spell with the Gers is yet to really ignite, there have certainly been some bright points along the way. And Rangers could be able to ensure that he gets the chance to make an even bigger impact for the club in the future if they spend the seven-figure sum that the Record reports it will take to make the move from the Championship side permanent.
Cummings’ record of six goals in 13 games in all competitions does not look too bad on paper, especially when you consider that he has started just twice in the Scottish Premiership this season. But whether he has done enough in the Rangers hierarchy’s mind to earn a permanent deal at the end of the campaign remains to be seen.

Should Rangers sign Cummings permanently?
He may not have been prolific so far, but there will surely be few Gers fans who will understand the club’s thinking if they decide against signing the Scotland international permanently.
In today’s game, £1 million has the potential to be a steal for a player of his potential, especially for a club that does not boast a huge amount of depth up front right now.
With plenty still to play for this season, Rangers would be wise to hold off confirming any decision until the summer in the hope that it motivates Cummings to shine in the coming weeks. But they should expect a lot of confusion, and perhaps anger, from the supporters if their decision ultimately sees the youngster head back to his parent club ahead of next season.
