According to The Scotsman, Rangers have been given permission to discuss personal terms with Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu.

It’s claimed that talks have progressed between Rangers and Amiens, and the Gers now have the green light to speak to Zungu.

Rangers allegedly plan to offer him a long-term deal, with 27-year-old Zungu expected to join until beyond his 30th birthday.

Amiens value Zungu at around €4million (£3.6million), and it would seem that Rangers are either close to that figure or have met it.

Zungu is described as being ‘extremely excited’ by the prospect of playing for Rangers and working under Steven Gerrard.

It seems that Zungu’s move to Ibrox is drawing closer and closer, with Amiens keen to sell following their relegation from Ligue 1.

Primarily a holding midfielder who can also work box-to-box, Zungu has experience in Portugal and France as well as South Africa, whilst he has picked up 29 caps and four goals for his country.

His injury record is a little concern, but Gerrard seemingly feels that he needs a scrapper to protect his back four – and Zungu looks to be that man.
