Glasgow Rangers are seemingly close to knowing whether they can bring two of their targets into Ibrox this summer

A report in the Sunday Mail has provided an update regarding Rangers’ pursuits of Carlos Pena and Fabio Cardoso this summer.

The Mail reports that Rangers could be closing in on signing Pena on a three-year deal. However, while the midfielder has agreed the move in principle, the Mail adds that the 27-year-old will need a work permit, which may not be easy to obtain as Pena has not played enough games for Mexico.

That has led to his current club, Chivas throwing the deal into a little doubt, with the Mail suggesting that they have set a deadline of June 20th for a move to be completed before they allow other interested clubs to make a move.

What will encourage the Gers at this stage is the fact that his father has seemingly confirmed that Pena now has his heart set on an Ibrox switch.

“Carlos’ dream is to play football in Europe,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“Rangers are a big club and the coach there would be perfect for him.”

Meanwhile, the Mail reports that Cardoso’s representatives are due to arrive in Glasgow for talks over a potential move this week, but the deal is still some way off being done it seems.

According to the Mail, La Liga side Malaga have now joined the running for the £1.2 million-rated Vitoria Setubal defender, so there is perhaps still a long way to go before Rangers fans can celebrate the 23-year-old signing.

While the two targets will be something of unknown quantities to the Ibrox faithful, it should certainly encourage them that Pedro Caixinha is wasting little time getting stuck into the transfer market as it arguably highlights that he is under no illusions regarding how much work is required over the coming months.
