Glasgow Rangers have failed with their first attempt to bring Greg Docherty to Ibrox during the January transfer window.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Rangers have seen a £300,000 bid for Greg Docherty rejected by Hamilton Academical, but the Gers are set to respond with a fresh offer this morning.

Graeme Murty’s men have certainly been busy during the first half of the January transfer window, signing Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings on loan deals until the end of the season.

And it appears that they may be closing in on their first permanent signing of the window, but only if they improve significantly upon their first bid – after falling short with their £300,000 bid for Docherty.

The Record reports that Accies want double that amount for the 21-year-old, who has been one of their most impressive performers in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The reports adds that while the Light Blues are set to return with a new offer in the coming hours, it is not clear whether their offer will meet Hamilton’s £600,000 asking price.

But with a cluster of sides also monitoring Docherty’s situation – as reported by the Record – it may be a wise move for Rangers to act quickly and meet Accies’ asking price if they are determined to land the youngster as they should not want to leave the door open for another team to swoop.
