Rangers are still looking for players to lure to Ibrox.
According to Clubcall, Rangers sent scouts to watch Panathinaikos host AEK Athens on Saturday evening as they plan for the January transfer window.
The Gers brought in 15 new signings under Steven Gerrard, and whilst he has lost just three times as Rangers boss, more changes could be coming in January.
Some patchy performances and the 1-0 Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen have left Gerrard to threaten his players with being sold unless they shape up and perform on the big stage.
Rangers will subsequently have targets in mind for January, and Clubcall report that they sent scouts to watch Panathinaikos take on AEK Athens in Greece over the weekend.
The game finished 0-0, and Rangers may have been looking at some AEK stars – just three months after Gers fans made AEK their new favourite team having dumped Celtic out of the Champions League qualifiers.
Greek playmaker Petros Mantalos is one player that may fit the bill, providing creativity and a goal threat from an attacking midfield role – something that Rangers have been lacking of late.
Having brought in Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic, another Croatian player may well be on the radar, with AEK forward Marko Livaja an option if Rangers want to try and splash the cash in January.
Either player would be a boost to Gerrard’s side in the final third, and it remains to be seen whether Rangers raid AEK – or even Panathinaikos – during the January transfer window.
