Glasgow Rangers are reportedly set to be without Ross McCrorie for the next four weeks in what is a major blow for the Ibrox side.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Stuart Armstrong of Celtic during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from The Scottish Sun, Rangers are set to be without Ross McCrorie for the next four weeks as he continues to fight his way back from injury.

McCrorie’s emergence into the Gers first-team was arguably one of the only success stories of Pedro Caixinha’s ill-fated tenure at Ibrox, and the 19-year-old took virtually no time establishing himself as a key man in the team capable of playing in defence or in midfield.

However, Graeme Murty has not been able to call upon the teenager since the most recent Old Firm game due to an injury that he sustained last year but has only kept him on the sidelines since their mid-season trip to America.

The Scottish Sun reports that McCrorie is now set to miss the next four weeks at least, which means that he is currently highly likely to miss the next Old Firm game which comes in mid-March.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Big blow for Murty

Rangers may have won their last three games in all competitions, but there have been some questions asked of their defence in the last two fixtures in particular, with Ayr and Hamilton both taking the lead in their respective games against the Gers.

McCrorie may still be young, but he has arguably threatened to be both Rangers’ best centre-back and best holding midfielder this term, so Murty would have been desperate to have him back in time for Celtic’s next visit to Ibrox if he had felt that that may have been a possibility.

But with McCrorie out injured, there is an opportunity for the likes of David Bates, Sean Goss or Greg Docherty to make sure that they use this extended period to impress as it may be their places that may be in doubt when the youngster does get back fully fit.
