Mark Warburton is reportedly weighing up whether to make a late attempt to bring the 29-year-old to Glasgow Rangers.

A report in the Scotsman has claimed that Rangers have joined Rotherham United in the race to sign Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.

HITC Sport reported on Tuesday that the Millers were keen on making a move for the 29-year-old, but it appears that they may now have to compete with the Gers for his signature.

Mark Warburton tried to bring Diagouraga – with whom, he worked with during his time in charge at Brentford – to Ibrox during the January transfer window, Sky Sports reported. However, a reunion failed to materialise as the Frenchman instead opted to join Steve Evans at Elland Road.

And while the former Paris Saint-Germain trainee was a key part of Evans’ plans, Garry Monk’s arrival has seen Diagouraga slip down the pecking order, with his last appearance coming in the opening day thrashing at the hands of Queens Park Rangers.

HITC Sport added that Monk has now left the path clear for Diagouraga to leave the Whites during this window, which appears to have caught Warburton’s attention, according to the Scotsman.

Though the Gers boast a congested midfield already, Warburton may be tempted to pursue a move as he is well aware of what he would bring to his squad. And with Leeds apparently willing to sanction a deal, the Scottish Premiership side may be able to get him for an excellent price.
