Declan John has found himself out of favour at Cardiff City but could be handed a fresh start by Rangers.
Rangers may have completed 10 signings already this summer but there is one remaining area in Pedro Caixinha’s squad that could do with reinforcing – the left-hand side.
The Evening Times reported on Wednesday that Rangers are set to make one more hopeful offer for Hearts winger Jamie Walker but will not meet the club’s £1 million asking price – meaning they will likely be forced to wait until January where they can negotiate a pre-contract agreement for a player who is out of contract in twelve months’ time.
In the meantime, however, the Scottish Sun reports that Rangers have turned their attention towards Cardiff City’s Declan John. The 22-year-old, who would join on a season-long loan, is a left-back by trade but is also capable of filling in one the wing.
And it appears that Cardiff will not stand in John’s way of making the move to Ibrox. The two-time Wales international has failed to win over Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock, featuring only once since the veteran gaffer took over in October of last year.
Furthermore, John is out of contract next summer, meaning he could make the deal permanent if he impresses at Ibrox.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha told fans that Rangers would be adding to their squad ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline and it remains to be seen whether John will be joined at Ibrox by any other new faces.
After falling out of favour at Cardiff, John will be hoping that a move to Rangers will give him fresh hope of forcing his way into Wales manager Chris Coleman’s plans ahead of the World Cup in Russia next summer – provided they qualify.
