According to The Scottish Sun, Aston Villa are lining up a move to sign winger Ryan Kent this summer, potentially ruining Rangers’ plans.

Steven Gerrard took a gamble last summer by bringing Kent in on loan from Liverpool, despite enduring disappointing season on loan at Freiburg and Bristol City.

However, Gerrard’s decision paid dividends as Kent hit six goals and nine assists this past season, even winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

Rangers are hoping to bring Kent back to Ibrox, most likely on loan rather than permanently, but Aston Villa could spoil those plans.

The Scottish Sun report that Villa want to sign Kent on a permanent basis, with plans to offer Liverpool £10million for the winger’s signature.

Villa take on Derby County in the Championship playoff final on Monday, but it’s claimed that they’ll pursue a deal for Kent no matter what.

Villa have allegedly made contact with Liverpool to state their interest, and Kent himself wants to play at a high level in England, meaning he may well be interested if they go up.

Liverpool would no doubt love to help Gerrard again, but if £10million is on the table for a player who is unlikely to have a huge future at Anfield, they may find it hard to reject.
