Rangers are interested in bringing Oostende defender Jack Hendry back to Scotland just months after leaving bitter rivals Celtic.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Rangers are ‘in the mix’ for Hendry’s signature as Oostende consider a quick profit.

They took Hendry on loan before turning the move permanent for just shy of £2million around eight week ago, but they could sell him on for more than double that now.

Rangers aren’t alone in the race though, with Torino, Brighton, Southampton and Sheffield United also interested in the Scot.

This does seem absolutely bizarre.

Rangers already have five senior centre backs at their disposal right now in Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson and Nikola Katic.

Additionally, Hendry didn’t exactly impress when playing for rivals Celtic, struggling with the pressure at times before heading off to Belgium.

Would Hendry really fare any better at Rangers? It’s a similar pressure cooker situation at Ibrox, and having seen Hendry struggle at Celtic, paying almost £5million for him would be a real gamble.

There’s also the matter of not many players turning out for both Celtic and Rangers, especially at first team level.

A deal for Hendry to join Rangers just seems very unlikely, but only time will tell whether Steven Gerrard and co are actually keen.
