Rangers are still looking to bring George Edmundson to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Record, Rangers are now considering agreeing to pay Oldham Athletic’s £1million price tag for defender George Edmundson.
The Gers have been pursuing Edmundson’s signature for weeks now, having been impressed with his performances over the course of 50-plus games for the Latics this season.
Oldham have so far stood firm, rejecting Rangers’ latest offer of £600,000, but the Gers are now considering meeting Oldham’s asking price to get a deal done before any other clubs come in.
It’s claimed that Rangers are now weighing up a bid of £1million for Edmundson, which would be enough to bring the defender to Ibrox.
The 21-year-old is still a rookie, but he’s done enough to impress Steven Gerrard, and he may well be considered as one for the future with Rangers.
That makes perfect sense. Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic are the clear first choice right now, and Edmundson can take over loanee Joe Worrall’s role as the young defender in the mix.
If Rangers can bring in a veteran to replace Gareth McAuley, then they’ll have the ideal balance once again, with an experienced head potentially vital for Edmundson’s development too.
Jumping from £600,000 to £1million may be seen as impatient, but with other clubs circling, Rangers may simply not want to miss out on a player they’re clearly set on signing.
