Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane
According to a report from The Irish Sun, Celtic and Rangers are both monitoring the progress of Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane ahead of the January transfer window.
Celtic and Rangers locked horns in the Old Firm derby on Saturday, and whilst the Bhoys claimed a thumping 5-1 win there, they could end up battling each other again shortly – this time in the transfer market.

Back in April, the Daily Mail reported that Rangers were interested in signing Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane, who has starred during his time at Oakwell.
Now, almost five months on, The Irish Sun report that Rangers are again monitoring Hourihane, but now face competition from Celtic for his signature.

The 25-year-old has earned a reputation as one of the most dangerous midfield players in the Football League since joining Barnsley from Plymouth Argyle back in the summer of 2014.
With 14 goals in his first season for the Tykes, Hourihane immediately made a huge impact, and then hit 11 goals from midfield last term to again show his quality as a goalscoring midfielder.
Hourihane has not only starred with his ability to score from long range with his superb left foot, but he’s also proven himself as a leader having captained both Plymouth and Barnsley in recent years.

His exploits at Barnsley – who sit third in the Championship table – have now seemingly attracted interest, with the report claiming that Celtic and Rangers are both tracking his progress ahead of possible moves for the player when the transfer window re-opens next year.
It’s added that Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic are also keen on Hourihane, who has been a key part of Barnsley’s great start to the season, with the Tykes potentially having to fight off interest in their skipper in January.
