Rangers are reportedly interested in appointing Alan Pardew.
According to the Daily Mail, Rangers have opened tentative talks with Alan Pardew’s representatives over the possibility of him becoming their new manager.
The Gers decided to sack manager Pedro Caixinha on Thursday afternoon, showing the Portuguese boss the door less than 24 hours after drawing 1-1 at home with Kilmarnock.
After just seven months in the job, Caixinha has gone, with Dave King and the Rangers hierarchy deciding to part ways with him despite handing him £8million to spend on new signings over the summer.
Graeme Murty took caretaker charge on Saturday afternoon, overseeing Rangers’ 3-1 away win at Hearts, but he may not be Rangers’ first choice to land the job long-term.
The Daily Mail now report that, whilst Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is still Rangers’ first-choice target, there has been preliminary contact with the representatives of Alan Pardew about a move to Ibrox.
Pardew, 56, has been out of work since losing his job as Crystal Palace boss in December 2016, mostly serving as a pundit in his time out of the game as he waits for the right opportunity to get back into management.
Pardew’s career in management has largely seen him impress to begin with but peter out and fail to get his side back on track, which is something that Rangers fans may be somewhat wary about.
The former West Ham United, Southampton and Newcastle United manager would be a shock appointment for Rangers, but with tentative talks opened, he may now become one of the frontrunners for the job after Caixinha’s exit.
