Rangers’ Clint Hill is on his way out of the club
A report in the Daily Mail has suggested that Rangers have decided that they will let Clint Hill leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The Mail reports that Pedro Caixinha is planning a major overhaul of his squad during his first summer in charge of the Gers, and has thus, left the door open for the 38-year-old to move on despite a good year at Ibrox.
According to the Mail, Hill was told earlier today that his contract would not be renewed, and with the centre-back still keen to continue his playing career, a summer departure is now set to happen.
It would hardly be a surprise if the news divided the fans given how Hill has played since arriving last year.
The veteran has surely been Rangers’ best centre-back and is arguably rivalling Kenny Miller for being the club’s most reliable and most consistent player throughout what has been a very disappointing campaign for the side.
Hill has enjoyed a good year with the Gers
But with Hill clearly not a long-term fixture in Rangers’ back four – unless he showed the longevity that evoked memories of David Weir’s spell in the side – it makes sense for Caixinha to consider looking to the future.
And it may not be out of the question to suggest that with a number of players within the squad arguably doing little to attract interest from elsewhere, the fact that the club can shift Hill off the wage bill may appeal to Caixinha as it may perhaps hand his funds a much-needed boost.
