According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers want to bring Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour back to the club on loan.
It’s claimed that Chelsea are open to such a move, given Gilmour first-team playing time; he did play against Krasnodar on Tuesday night, but needs regular football.
An approach from Rangers has allegedly already been made, with the Gers keen to take him back to Ibrox for the second half of the season.
Gilmour’s Rangers history
Gilmour, 19, was touted as the next big thing in Scottish football after emerging through the Rangers ranks, and was training with the first team at just 15.
The diminutive midfielder left for Chelsea in 2017, but admitted last year that he still travelled up to Ibrox to watch Rangers whenever he could – of course, in a pre-pandemic time.
Returning to Rangers for a few months ahead of the European Championships could help all parties, especially with the Gers pursuing the league title.

Do Rangers need another midfielder?
Rangers already have six key central midfielders, and they’re all senior internationals; Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and recent signing Bongani Zungu.
Zungu has yet to really get going since arriving from Amiens, whilst Jack has suffered some injury woes that have limited his impact of late.
If Rangers have concerns about Jack’s condition or Zungu’s long-term future at Ibrox, then bringing in Gilmour for the rest of the season could make some sense – but otherwise, this one doesn’t really add up, especially with no chance of a permanent move.
