Rangers are struggling in their attempts to bring Jake Cooper to Ibrox this summer.
According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are set to return with a third bid for Millwall defender Jake Cooper by the end of the week after having another offer rejected.
The Gers have snapped up two new centre backs under Steven Gerrard having signed Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, but more reinforcements are needed given the defensive exodus this summer.
Bruno Alves and David Bates have moved on to Parma and Hamburg respectively, whilst Russell Martin returned to Norwich City and Fabio Cardoso is expected to leave having been made surplus to requirements.
A left-footed centre back appears to be on Gerrard’s wish list, and Rangers have now failed with two bids for Millwall’s Jake Cooper – but the Gers aren’t finished with their pursuit just yet.
The Scottish Sun report that Rangers are locked in talks with the Championship club about a deal, and are set to launch their third bid for Cooper by the end of the week, with Gerrard refusing to give up.
Cooper, 23, only joined Millwall permanently from Reading last summer after a successful loan spell, and starred under Neil Harris last season with four goals in 42 games.
The 6ft 4in defender fits the bill for Rangers, but Millwall are understandably fighting to keep their centre back even after signing another left-footed centre back in Murray Wallace earlier this summer.
Rangers do have alternatives in mind, such as Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt, but Cooper remains the top target – even after failing with their £3million bid on Monday, meaning a major outlay could be on the horizon.
