Rangers have been linked with bringing Josh Magennis to Ibrox.

According to The Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers striker Josh Magennis is seeking help from the PFA in his attempts to leave the club.

Sadly, Bolton’s off-field struggles continue. They’ve just been forced to cancel a friendly with Preston North End because players are striking, and fears are rising about their longevity.

Some players are in a battle to leave, as it’s claimed that striker Magennis and playmaker Erhun Oztumer sent in their notices several weeks ago.

Having not been paid, the duo attempted to leave Bolton – as they’re entitled to do – but the Trotters refused their notices, and are demanding transfer fees for the pair, as they have for goalkeeper Remi Matthews too.

It’s becoming an increasingly unsavoury situation, and it’s now believed that Magennis and Oztumer have been seeking help from the PFA in an attempt to finalise their exits.

Rangers may be keeping tabs on the situation, as the Belfast Telegraph recently claimed that the Gers have held talks with the striker about a move to Ibrox.

Whether Magennis would be a good signing is another matter. He’s 28, he’s scored just seven goals in 45 games for Bolton, and has only every recorded double figures for goals in three seasons in his entire career.

However, he knows Jordan Jones and Steven Davis from international duty, he knows Scottish football, he’s a big and physical striker – which Rangers will lack if Kyle Lafferty moves on – and he could be a bargain signing.

Rangers need a third-choice striker if Lafferty goes, and a hard-working, physical centre forward like Magennis may fit that role well, even if he wouldn’t exactly excite fans.
