According to The Sunday Mail (11/10, back page), Rangers will have to pay just £2.7million to sign Bongani Zungu permanently next summer.

The Gers pursued Zungu for much of the summer, and after the deal looked to be dead, they finally got their man on deadline day.

Zungu has signed a season-long loan deal with Rangers, giving him a chance to impress Steven Gerrard in order to try and win a permanent move.

It now seems that Rangers have landed something of a discount, as they will only have to pay £2.7million to turn the move permanent.

Amiens wanted €4million (£3.7million) over the summer according to KickOff in South Africa, which Rangers weren’t prepared to pay.

The Gers have now negotiated Amiens down by £1million, which director of football Ross Wilson deserves huge credit for – especially with a loan first.

Zungu, 28, will give Gerrard another option in midfield, specifically as a holding midfielder or box-to-box player.

A South African international with 29 caps to his name, Zungu arrives with international and Ligue 1 games under his belt, and will now be looking to earn that knockdown permanent move to Ibrox.
