According to the Daily Mail, Celtic and Rangers have both been alerted to the form of Greenock Morton defender Thomas O’Ware ahead of the summer transfer window.

O’Ware, 24, started his career in the youth ranks at Rangers before moving on to Kilmarnock and Bonnyton Thistle, eventually joining Morton in 2011.

The former Scotland Under-18 international is now a first-team regular for the Scottish Championship side, and his remarkable goalscoring form is attracting interest ahead of the transfer window.

O’Ware has hit a remarkable ten goals in 44 games from centre back this season, and that record has triggered interest from Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

O’Ware’s goal return is so impressive that he has actually scored more goals than any Rangers player has this season, and it’s fair to say that the Gers need him more than Celtic right now.

Rangers have struggled defensively throughout the season, and whilst there are signs that new manager Pedro Caixinha is making his side harder to beat, veteran defenders Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos are both out of contract this summer, and could walk away.

That would leave Rangers with only Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson as recognised centre backs, and adding a player who knows the club, is in great form and wouldn’t break the bank would be ideal, with O’Ware fitting the bill perfectly.

Meanwhile, Celtic have the likes of Erik Sviatchenko, Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata vying for first-team football, and whilst Brendan Rodgers should pursue another centre back this summer, he will be looking for players who can make an impact in the Champions League, rather than a player in the second tier of Scottish football like O’Ware.
