Rangers are reportedly in talks to land Steven Gerrard as the new Ibrox boss.
According to The Scottish Sun, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is in talks to become the new Rangers manager this summer.
The Gers sacked Pedro Caixinha back in October, and having failed to land Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes in December, interim boss Graeme Murty was handed the reins until the end of the season.
Murty has handled the job admirably, but it has been clear for some time that Rangers need to look elsewhere for their permanent boss – and they appear to be pursuing a shock appointment.
The Scottish Sun report that talks are underway with Liverpool youth coach Steven Gerrard over a stunning move to take charge at Ibrox this summer.
It’s claimed that director of football Mark Allen is leading talks, and a deal is thought to be close despite Gerrard’s complete lack of managerial experience.
37-year-old Gerrard isn’t thought to be put off by the size of the task at Ibrox, and he would seemingly be willing to take charge of Rangers to kickstart his managerial career.
A move to Glasgow would see Gerrard go head-to-head with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, having worked together at Liverpool – and whilst Gerrard’s lack of experience is a huge concern, he is a huge, box office name for Rangers and Allen to pursue.
