Rangers boss Mark Warburton is reportedly hoping to pull off a major coup at Ibrox.
Rangers are reportedly ready to make a move for West Brom striker Saido Berahino – according to a report from The Sun.
The Glasgow club have often been linked with the player in the rumour mill but this is the first time it has been reported as a genuine possibility with real interest from Mark Warburton.
The Sun claim that Rangers are hoping to convince the West Brom star that a move to Scotland would be the perfect idea to kick-start his flagging career.
West Brom’s Saido Berahino
The transfer policy at Ibrox in recent years has seen several talented English players target when out of contract, such as in the cases of Matt Crooks, Josh Windass and Jordan Rossiter.
Berahino would be the biggest such arrival if Rangers did manage to convince him of a move, and there is another positive twist to this story.
As Rangers are a Scottish side they would not have to pay the same sort of compensation as a team in England would have to. The report claims that Rangers would have to pay just £500k for the player if they agreed terms on a deal.
West Brom’s Saido Berahino looks dejected after the game
Considering only a year ago Tottenham Hotspur had a bid of £22 million, as reported by the Mirror, rejected for the player that is a massive bargain for Rangers.
One sticking point would surely be wages for Rangers, but for Berahino they might just pay over the odds in the hope he could have a similar impact as Moussa Dembele at Celtic.
